Newscutter/ Media Composer Compatability
I have a project that originates and finishes on an Avid Adrenaline Newscutter v. 7.1.3. I’m currently running media composer 2.8.4 at home. Can I take the project from the Newscutter and edit it on my system as it currently stands? Or do I need to upgrade mine and to what? The media is DV25.

Thank you! I’m assuming most of what I’ll be doing is dissolves, so I don’t expect too much of an issue.
I’m looking into upgrading my mac so that I can upgrade to the Media Composer version that equates to the Newscutter. Once they are at the same version, will this problem go away or is this inherent in going from Media Composer to NewsCutter?

You should be fine. Note that any effects you use in Newscutter that aren’t on the Media Composer won’t show up (if they’re rendered they’ll be there, but as soon as you do something to unrender them they’ll disappear).
Otherwise, you should be fine. Avid systems are typically cross-compatible (Xpress to Media Composer to Newscutter to Symphony).

It’s not a problem, it’s just the nature of software and what effects are installed and what effects aren’t. If you use Media Composer and you have the Boris CC effects used in your sequence, then you go to a system that doesn’t have Boris installed–it can’t do the effects. They’re missing.
I think there’s about 98 – 99% similarity between Newscutter and Media Composer, so unless you’re using 3rd party effects I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
