(Montreal, Canada, – July 13, 2005) Matrox Video Products Group today announced that the Matrox Axio family of realtime HD and SD editing platforms is now shipping worldwide. Matrox Axio is designed to give users the highest finishing quality, coupled with the most comprehensive realtime feature set, at an affordable price point.

Matrox Axio makes Adobe Premiere Pro the foremost realtime HD and SD editor for demanding broadcast and post-production environments. It features no-render HD and SD finishing in compressed and uncompressed formats, superior color correction tools, advanced realtime effects, and a full range of analog and digital audio and video inputs and outputs. It incorporates Matrox Flex 3D and Power of X technologies to leverage scalable CPU power with the explosive performance of dedicated 3D graphics hardware to provide the ultimate SD and HD editing experience.

“Matrox Axio, in combination with the Adobe Video Collection, delivers a high performance HD editing solution optimized to meet the needs of video, film, and broadcast professionals,” said Steve Saylor, vice president of Digital Video and Audio products at Adobe. The combination of Axio and Premiere Pro allows users to edit HD as if it were SD

Im confused…”Matrox Axio HD is priced at $11,495 US in North America. Matrox Axio SD is priced at $7,495 US in North America. Prices include the complete Adobe Video Collection Standard, the workstation and storage are extra”

I was under the impression that the already heafty price tags were for complete turnkey solutions, now they are saying that these prices are for the card only??? Seems incredibly steep to me considering whats out in the market at the moment.

Perhapse someone should point out to Matrox what is available with cards like Blufish and even the Canopus Edius NX for a fraction of the above price. Of course the Canopus solution doesnt use Ppro but hell, considering Axio cant even handle HDV at this time…

I’m sure they will get there, plus they need to handle DVCPro100.

They’ve really aimed this product at broadcasters where “realtime” needs to be realtime…none of this keeping your eyelids open with toothpicks while printing to tape in case there is a glitch, and having to render clips from other codecs before you can use them “realtime”.

We’ve been running Digisuites for 6 years now and if this generation of boardset does what it advertises Adobe Premiere may finally be “Pro”.
