  • NewBlue plugins – where to install

I’m about to install NewBlueFx and have read that all fx should go into one folder only – the VST folder.
Can you tell me about these separate video and audio folders and why everything should go in them. Thx

NewBlueFX plug-ins are not VST’s. They are DirectX filters and come with installers that put them in the proper place for the host application that you are using.

Oh, BTW…what are VST folders. I saw on the NewBlue site that one should use them, so what do they do and what advantages or not are they in Vegas.

VST is a plug-in technology created by Steinberg. It stands for Virtual Studio Technology and refers to audio plug-ins only. I don’t use any NewBlue audio plug-ins so maybe they do use VST.

Instead of being registered with the operating system like DirectX, VST uses a very simply approach. You place them in a folder, you point your application at the folder, and it loads them. No need for complicated installers. This is why people recommend that you use only one folder to place them in so that they are not scattered all over your hard drive. The default location is usually C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins but it can be anything you want.

Therefore, if it keeps things uncomplicated, would it be a good practice to start putting all video fx/plugins in the video VST folder. Vegas recognizes this folder.

It makes no sense to put video fx in the VST folder becasue it’s for audio only. Just put audio VST plugins in this folder.
