Newbie Vegas Question Please help
Posted by Streetappraisal on September 5, 2006 at 7:37 pmHello,
I just bought a Canopus ADVC110 and Vegas will not capture but I can capture using windows movie maker. From what I have read and found to date everything suggests clearing the “Enable DV Device Control check box found in the general tab of the preferences”. Sounds pretty simple but for the life of me I am not seeing this control, running version 6.
Thanks

September 5, 2006 at 9:51 pmYou need to do this in the VidCap prefs (options – prefs – general), not the Vegas prefs.

September 5, 2006 at 10:41 pmThanks for the reply. I found the video capture preferences I think, in the capture window I click on preferences and it brings up capture preferences. I have 3 tabs, general, dick managment & Device. Under general 3 choices: stop device on loss of focus, show video when device is stopped & show video when device is fast fowarding, also pixal aspect at the bottom. I unchecked all but I do not see anything else about device control. Am I in the right preferences? Also under device tab, type IEEE 1394, Blackmagic Decklink or none are my only options with no properties available for either.
Thanks for the help

September 6, 2006 at 12:29 amJust to confirm, you are using Vegas (6.0d) and not Vegas Movie Studio, right?
To enable Capture, either go File – Capture Video or click on the camera icon (Capture Video) in the Project Media Tab.
This brings up a screen titled “Capture Video – Please select a video capture method:”
Make sure you select the “Use external video capture application”.
Click OK. This brings up 2 “Sony Video Capture” windows. They refer to capture settings. Set them as desired. I create a “captured files” folder in the project that this is for.
Now the window should say “Sony Video Capture 6.0 Default*”.
This window has 3 tabs: Capture; Advanced Capture; Print to Tape and 7 menu choices: File; View; Transport; Video; Audio; Options; Help.
Click on Options – Preferences. You should see 6 tabs here: General; Disk Management; Capture; Advanced Capture; Print to Tape; Preview.
In the General tab, deselect the first one (Enable DV Device Control).
That should be it.
Please let me know if this helps. Thanks. -

September 6, 2006 at 2:52 amNot sure about (6.0d), the splash screen shows Sony Vegas 6.0 (Build 84).
Either way I choose I can not get to “Capture Video – Please select a video capture method:”. When I select either option it hesitates a second and switches to the capture tab (not sure of the name of it, new to the program) but on the right is the preview screen and on the left is a large blue screen with “Device not available” underlined, preferences & Drive space tabs are above this.
I did not have the advc installed when I installed the vegas program, would that matter? I have not tried to capture in anything other that windows movie maker but it does fine in there, I can even import the avi file into vegas to edit. I just would really like to do it all within vegas.
Your help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks

September 6, 2006 at 3:00 amHi thanks for the help, the conditions noted within my previous post are with the “Use external video capture” unchecked, when I have it selected and try to File-capture, nothing happens at all, I thought that I was at least getting somewhere with it unchecked, it at least responded.

September 6, 2006 at 4:22 amI had a similar capture problem on one of my systems. Reinstalled 6.0d and all was well. Good Luck!

September 6, 2006 at 1:30 pmVegas 6.0d is build 210 (full version – not Movie Studio). Since you’re not seeing a letter, I’d say you’re on 6.0 – the original release. Please download the current version 6.0d and start using that. There are a ton of bug fixes and other improvements that were added since the original 6.0 release.
(full version update – 6.0d)

September 6, 2006 at 1:32 pmFor capturing DV, you MUST use the External capture program. The internal one is for HDV. Since you’re on 6.0, updating to 6.0d will solve your problem. This was a known issue with 6.0 (and, I think, 6.0a) which has since been resolved. Please update to 6.0d and I believe you’ll find all is well.
