  • Newbie question: Resizing rectangles

Posted by William Cousert on April 14, 2008 at 7:09 pm

I’m just starting out with AE CS3 and I’m having a problem that’s driving me nuts!

I drew a rectangle on a blank composition. So far, so good. When I attempted to resize it by dragging the lower right corner, the upper left corner moves by the same exact amount.

I want resize to work the same as it does in Illustrator.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,

Dave: He used a shape layer in CS3.

William: As far as I can tell, this is how shape layers work. But if you create a solid and draw a mask, then when you adjust the mask borders, they will resize only in the direction you pull them in.

Create a solid (Command-Y) and make it the comp size.

Use the same button you used to create the shape layer, but with the solid selected in the time line. This will draw a mask onto the solid.

With the mask visible in the comp window, double click on the mask border. This will bring up a resize border.

If you then pull on the corners, they will resize only in one direction (unless you hold down Command-Shift as you resize.)

    Hope this helps,

    Lars

Including this, there’s a few other things i wish AE could inherit from Illustrator.

Anyone at Adobe listening? Anyone? 🙂

Sorry, you are correct. I am totally new at this.

Thanks! I’ll give this a try when I get home.

Beat around the bush much? He is simply asking if it’s possible to constrain resizing to only a particular corner. Rather than dragging a corner and resizing the whole shape…
