  • Newbie Question: How to install custom shaders

Posted by John on August 17, 2006 at 10:13 pm

I have Cinema 4D v8.5 and a demo of 9.5. I downloaded the free ‘Organic’ and ‘Fabrics’ shaders from Maxon’s site (Go to Downloads:Materials & Goodies). The problems is that I can’t figure out how to install them. I threw them into the ‘Maxon:Cinema4D:Plug-ins folder’ but I can’t seem to find them anywhere. I’ve never used a custom shader, so maybe they are there but I just don’t know how to access them.

Can these newer shaders be used with 8.5 or do I need to upgrade to 9.5? Did anything shader related change between versions?

Also.. If a shader has more than one file associated with it (like ‘simple animal fur.lib4d’ and its associated ‘Hair.tif’ files), can these be located in a subfolder within Plug-ins, or does everything have to go in the Plug-ins folder directly?

    Thanks much!

some shader things have changed between versions but shaders are just loaded – check out File/Load Materials in the Material Manager, they don’t need to be put anywhere special (unless they have been grouped into a .lib4d file then they go in the Library/Browser etc)
