I’m learning the basics of Movie Studio 12 Platinum. This time I’m having an issue with being unable to delete parts of an event from the timeline. I select the portion of the event I want to remove and hit the delete key as the Quick Start guide says. But on playback nothing has changed. What am I doing wrong?

Did you press the S key to split the event? You must split the event and then select the new event and delete it.

Yes, I split the event on both sides of the portion I want to delete, select it, and hit delete. Then there is a gap in the track where the deleted portion was, and at that time it is gone. But when I try to to rejoin the ends of the track by dragging them together where the delete is so I can make a crossfade, the deleted portion is back. I know I’m doing something wrong, but the none of the instructional stuff explains what that might be. I should be able to reference this issue in the quick start guide or the Help section of the software, but this point is not addressed anywhere I’ve read. I also have the Muvipx.com manual, which was of no help on this either. Only after exhausting all other sources of info did I post my question here. Thanks again for responding, John.

Glenn. Sounds like you are dragging the EDGE of the second part of your event which simply expands the event and adds back what you have deleted. You need to select the event itself (place the cursor somewhere in the middle of the clip without selecting either the fx or the pan/crop icons) and slide it into place; using auto ripple too probably.

Yea, that’s what it sounds like is going wrong. You must move the event not extend it. Alternately you can press Ctrl+F after you delete the event to fill in the gap by rippling everything left.
