I’m trying to learn vegas. when I capture in vegas 6 all I’m apparently able to capture is the audio, no video appears in the video track timeline.

What are some likely culprits? I’m hoping something obvious.

How about some more details about how you’re capturing? What type of camera? How is it being connected to the computer? What program are you using for capture? Etc…

Capturing via firewire in Vegas will automatically get both. In fact, Vegas doesn’t have a means of capturing audio only via firewire.

So why am I only getting the audio track? I don’t have this issue with
edius on the same computer, with the same camera.

Are you getting a standard DV-AVI file? Are you capturing via firewire? And you are using the External capture?

All I can tell you is what I know about Vegas VidCap. When capturing via firewire, it will capture to a standard DV-AVI file. It does not have a means of capturing audio only. In fact, people that want to do that frequently use Scenalyzer Live.

You might also try Scenalyzer Live to capture. Many people using Vegas use it for capturing instead of VidCap. (Personally, I use both – each for different reasons).

Just a thought, but for some reason when I capture in Vegas, I know I have to select the device on the Capture window before it will talk to the camera. Then is it a DV camera? Maybe there’s some kind of video codec in use that Vegas doesn’t support, but the audio is a regular PCM, something like a special HDV transport in an earlier part of Vegas?
