Newbie needs help choosing tower for FCS2
Hi everyone,
I am a newbie in need of advice. I am just starting out on FCP and have a MBP 3,1 that was bought specifically for this purpose but I was given incorrect advice at he time by a supposedly reputable apple reseller and got an inadequate machine (2GHz/2GB) which will not even load FCP let alone run it. Any way I figure that instead of upgrading the MBP I may as well upgrade properly and buy a tower. I have been patiently waiting for the Nehalems to arrive but have read a lot of reviews in regards to overheating problems. I have found a Harpertown 8 core 3.2GHz machine that would come with a full apple warranty and would upgrade this with a ATi 4870 card, a raid card & 2TB HD. As I am only just starting out but would hopefully be doing some full on editing within the next 4 years, could anyone give me some advice as to whether this machine is a good choice or let me know of any issues I should be aware of? Or am I better off taking my chances with a basic model Nehalem and hope I don’t get a lemon? any suggestions on another more suitable machine or upgrades etc would be appreciated. Apple will not advise me on anything other than what they can sell me and as I am In Australia I can only buy a Nehalem as they have no other towers available. I already feel shafted by a supposedly reputable apple reseller and I have posted this question in the Mac Pro forum but felt that it is more properly posted in this forum as it really is about the best machine for running FCP on.
thanks in advance
Cheers
