The full version (i.e. not the TRIAL) has alot of menu templates — and they can be customized as well.

The “slowness” might be due to the default values for motion menus and motion thumbnails, as well as the default menu transitions that are turned on for alot of the templates.

I would recommend turning off the motion menu and menu transitions to see if that helps speed things up. Of course, encoding the video for your dvd also takes time (if you are not using DVD compliant source material).

There are some free solutions available — but they will require more planning and authoring knowledge. They would also require an encoder (if you don’t have dvd-compliant source).
