  • Newbie: help! codec for XDCAM EX 720p30 (35 Mb/s VBR)

    Friends,

I just bought a brand new laptop:

    Mac OS X 10.6.2
    2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    memory 4Gb 1067 MHz DDR3

I just installed Final Cut pro 6.

All my video is shot in XDCAM EX 720p30 (35 Mb/s VBR), Integer (Big Endian).

When I try to open this video on my computer, it just plays a black screen. But I can hear sound.

I thought XDCAM EX footage ran natively on FCP 6 ??

Is it because I need to buy Quicktime Pro? Which version do I need to buy? I have Quicktime Pro 7 on my other computer — can I transfer that? But it says it only works with Quicktime Pro 7 — will that work?

Did you install the XDCam Drivers?

I did not install those drivers. I don’t know anything about that (but would like to learn more!)

I went ahead and installed Quick Time Pro and it solved the problem!!!

Does everyone here adhere to this religiously?

    Quick Time Pro FCP

My current settings don’t match up (we have a more recent version of QT Pro) but it appears to be working fine. (?)

The top file, File Transfer 2.1.1 will install drivers for the footage and an XDCam log and transfer tool which is pretty nifty. It’s free too but it does have the disclaimer about Snow Leopard. Try to install it and see if it works.
