Im just starting to poke around C4D.
    Love the app so far.

Im used to Modo which has Global Illumination built in to it’s rendering engine.
Am I correct in understanding that to get GI in C4D you need to buy the Advance Render 3 module in order to achieve it?

As for Body Paint, Is this what UV mapping is in C4D?
Can you do UV Mapping in C4D without it? (Looks like maybe you can…)
Why does a person need BP? (I realize BP does lots of amazing texturing stuff)

Adding these functionalities to C4D effectively increases the cost of using C4D by $1600 to a total of about $2600.
    Yikes.

I realize a lot of 3D apps are pricey (3ds Max).
C4D is very well thought out but that is a lot of money compared to Modo which seems to do all those things for about $850.

Any thoughts on this out there?

Yes, GI is the main thing that Advanced Render adds (as well as caustics and few other bits and bobs).

BodyPaint is now part of the Cinema base module, so there’s no extra cost there.
