sold my trusty pd150 last spring while waiting for the next generation of camera.

borrowed a friend’s dvx100a during my summer production which i just finished editing.

now i find out i have another gig coming where i’ll need a rig. been thinking seriously about buying a dvx100a. seems like many folks are selling the pd170/pannie dvx100a so they can be early adapters w/new hd cameras. (it is just not my nature to buy 1st generation products-cars-computers or cameras!)

have used the dvx100a shooting 30p for talking head interviews on summer production. never felt that i fully took advantage of the camera’s many attributes. will soon be buying the green book as my tutorial

but how would YOU go about checking out a used dvx100a?

    is there a hrs menu?

how many hrs is too much? (assuming tlc and maintenance)

headphone hiss is a stated concern.

what else should i be looking for/listening for?

any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

    be well

was hoping this forum could provide some feedback on checking out a used dvx100a.

many of us buy used equipment out of financial pressures

a stated checklist would perhaps be a resource to others aside from myself.

when i ask above, “how many hrs is too much”, how many hours does your dvx100a have?

i’m looking at a camera w/500 hrs but has supposedly been handled professionally over its lifespan.

    is 500 hrs too many?

just looking for some real-world experience in buying a used dvx100a.

thanks in advance to those who care to share.

    be well

It really depends on how well it was taken care of. Questions to ask are was it stored in a hard case. Were only Professional MQ tapes used- no other tape brands. Was the head cleaner run regularly. Was it used in a dusty environment. How often has it been serviced. Was it ever used as an editing feeder deck.

500 hours is very heavy usage but this is a very hardy camera so it comes down to the care it got.
