Hey everyone, I’m pretty new @ AE(bought it a couple of weeks ago) to use for some motion graphics fun. The layout is a bit like Photoshop like I’m used to using. But, I’ve got a few questions that you experienced users hopefully can answer. For some reason, my effects aren’t showing up when they were about a couple of days ago. I’m using AE 6.5 on Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD Athlon64 3400+, 2x1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM, WD Raptor 74GB 10K RPM HDD. Also, I’ve done some tutorials on Creative Cow but it hasn’t really helped me grasp the basics of AE still don’t get how to use adjustment layers and all of the features. My goal in a few weeks is to complete something like Ayato at Ayato@Web completed…particularly something resembling this.

Are there any like tutorials that explain all the features of AE6.5? In that ayato tip(and in all his others), he uses something called “Logo Footage”? Now does that refer to just footage of a logo that was rendered in AE as an .mpeg(or video file) and then imported again, if not please explain.

Or if someone could help me could be kind enough to explain AE and how to use the basics, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    A newbie AE6.5 user 😉

He’s probably talking about footage you’ve already created outside of the tutorial. Ayato’s tuts are not for beginners. They’re not step-by-step-from-zero lessons. If he mentions something and doesn’t show you how to create it, he expects you to know how.

You should first read the manual. I’m serious.
Also, get Chris and Trish Meyer’s books Creating Motion Graphics books. They are the best guides to After Effects.

The ” Creating Motion Graphics with AE” books by Chris and Trish Meyer are great!!! I highly recomend them!

And I highly recommend the Total Training DVDs. Totally worth every single copper penny you spend on them. And that’s English OR American pennies!
