Sorry, but I need to post this do to work deadline. I have hundreds of Ill files that are math formulas that I need to fade up as a type ons as the vo is read. How do I make it so expressions do the work? E.i. (vo says “two”) the 2 fades up (vo says “times”) the * fades up (vo says chi_squ) the chi_squ simble fades up. This is done with layered Ill files that were generated from MathType (there is advanced equations that cannot be done in AE type tools or Ill so I must use Ill files which have copied type from MathType), cutup in Ill to layers and imported to AE. So to recap I have a VO track that I need to mark the words timing points so that each layer fades up at the right time.

Normally, the way to do this would be to apply an expression to every layer’s opacity, then applying layermarkers to a control-layer, and have each layer look at the marker to determine whether it should fade in.

But really, I see no advantage in using expressions.
I would just create a 0 and a 100% opacity keyframe, a couple of frames apart, copy those and then just paste at every layer as each word occurs in the Voice.
May look like a lot of work, but it’s actually less work & less keystrokes than doing it with expressions IMHO.
    And easier to tweak visually.

Another way to do it is, first give every layer the fade-in at time=0.
In other words, they will all anim in at the same time.

Then scrub through the sound untill the locator is at the correct time for the next word, and nudge the layer to that time by using Command-[
    Repeat for every layer.

Thx for the response to my post. I took your advice and did it the old-fashion way. I was just hoping that there was an easier way to do it. THX again.
