3) True 10bit Monitoring- the vast majority of computer monitors are only 8bit, SMPTE video uses higher specs than a standard computer monitor.

Video cards like Aja’s Kona 3 offer FCP users the same power and controls on their FCP and Adobe NLE’s systems that were previously found on the most expensive systems only available from companies AVID, AUTODESK and others.

And I’ll add multiple conversions at the same time in realtime.

The Kona 3 has three outputs for example, you can set up all three to output something different in realtime. Typically we work in 720p HD but have to deliver 1080i to the networks and very often our clients want a DVD for review or to keep on hand. So my outputs are typically set up as:

SDI 1 – 720p HD to my monitors

SDI 2 – Convert to 1080i HD to the record VTR

Component – Convert to 525 SD for the DVD Recorder.

All of this happens in realtime, in full broadcast quality. In addition, the inputs can also be set up independently for conversions if necessary.
