NEWB FCPX Question! Saving Project to a shared server.
I just made the switch from FCP7 to FCPX the learning curve isn’t bad my only problem is I am really, really confused on how saving works. I understand the basics but how do i save a copy of a project to a different location in my case a shared server. I’ve tried duplicate project/Duplicate Project Only & also with referenced events but it saves locally and when i try to move it to the server i cant open the project. And when i try to move project it says no value for the location

Does the server appear in the application? Dud you use Add SAN Location in the File menu?

It says:
The selected folder is located on a volume with an unsupported file format.
Only folders on SAN volumes are supported as SAN locations.Ok, To simplify this question how do you save a project to a different location?

How is the “shared server” hook to your system?
Why not just do a Finder copy?

I think I’m missing something here.
When I do a copy of the project folder and everything in it, even if I copy and paste the project folder to my desktop and try to open the project file it says:
The document “CurrentVersion.fcpproject” could not be opened.
I don’t understand what the hell happened to the “Save As” option.

There is no Save as option. The Projects/Events need to live in your “movies” folder on your local machine, or in a folder named Final Cut Projects and Final CUt Events on attached drives.
Please tell us how your server is connected to your machine. If it is a SAN, and you can add a SAN location, you an put the Projects/Events in any directory on your SAN, but you should use FCPX to move them.
AS with a lot of elements of FCPX, things work very differently from FCP7.

It is connected through an Ethernet and I believe its NAS

Can you see the NAS in FCPX in the Event Browser?

It has to be Mac OS formatted to be used with FCP.

FCPX does not work like FCP7.
They are completely different.
