New XServe RAID ETA?
Anyone know if an update to the XServe RAID is anywhere around the corner? Maybe around the release of the new XServe? Ever since the “XServe RAID Extreme” rumors back in April prior to NAB, nada, nothing, zip, zilch. Building a large FCP XSan deployment for a client next month and hoping for and update 4gb fibre and SATA drives. Any info or guesses would be appreciated. Cheers.

I know it can be frustrating not to know what’s coming when you are about to make a big purchase. But, secrecy is important in the tech industry for many reasons (and especially for Apple). So most of us don’t know the answer. The few lucky ones that do, of course, can’t post the answer on the forums, or tell anyone outside of Apple.
Just buy the best gear available for your client right now and don’t worry about what might be coming.

Don’t mean to throw a wrench into your plans BUT have you looked into the TerraBlock by Facilis Technology?
It works similar to the XServe RAID but it doesn’t need a server to run and its already a 4 gigabit Fibre Channel connection. It uses SATA drives. Its RAID5 capable. AND best of all, it works with Windows and Mac flawlessly. You can even connect it to a standard network so that users with Macs and PCs can access material on the TerraBlock.
If you are worried about speeds, I watched a 2k demo on one at NAB and it was incredible. Oh, yeah! Here’s another great feature! If you need more storage, you can add another without any problems what so ever. They come in any configuration up to 12TB in a single box!
