Yes, this is one of the failings of final cut pro. when you change the speed of a clip, it pulls or pushes everything else in the timeline. It should not do this, but that’s how it’s designed to work.

The way we work around this is to put the clips into a different timeline, change the speed, then bring the clip into the main timeline.

thank you..
i do semi as u do..i speed my clip at end of timeline..then cut and paste at place i want!..

another 2 tricks plz..

1-when i drag and drop clip into timeline..it usually shift next clips when small black arrow point to next….and overwrite when it point at down..

SO i want all files i drag and drop to b in over write mode..
is their option where i can disable the shifting option??

2-when i copy and paste piece of clip at time line ..how can i paste it to another layer than the one i copied from??

I think the best way to perform speed changes in FCP is to match frame the “source file” command is found in the Match frame submenu… change the speed of that clip in the Viewer, then edit it in… Doesn’t change the speed of the clip already in the sequence, and doesn’t change the speed in the browser clip either.
