When I export from FCP using “Quicktime Movie” I get multiple -av files with what seems to be a 520mb limit.

Before you go thinking that I have a FAT32 drive, I don’t. I have tried it on our 42TB Apple SAN, and a local drive (format MACOS Extended).

To confuse it even further, when I export using “Quicktime Conversion” with the same settings, I don’t get the -av files.

I understand why FAT32 has its size limits, but this seems to be a problem with FCP itself, seeing as I do not own a drive that is formatted fat32.

    Any ideas?

Make sure you don’t have an export limit set in system settings. There is no realistic file size limit in the current version of the OS or in FCP.

It would be helpful if you gave some exact information about your system, starting with the OS version, the application version, the QT version, the computer, the system drives, and any additional drives.

    All the best,

On a related matter, what is the difference (if any) of exporting to a Quicktime .mov via “File>Export>Quicktime Movie…” or “File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion… ” then selecting “Quicktime Movie” in the Format drop down? They seem to have the same options associated with them (albeit laid out differently)
Is one more preferable than the other?
    thanks

do you have multiple audio tracks, and the audio mixer set to anything higher than 2 tracks?
I have had a similar problem in the past, and i found it was rendering multiple stereo pairs – and it was creating them even if tracks were empty.

I had not noticed the “export” limit box. I had never used it before. It must have gotten reset when I upgraded to Final Cut Studio 3.

    Thank you.
