new tricks in AE CS3?
Posted by Iannorthrop on July 2, 2007 at 4:56 pmI’m curious to hear what this new version can do. I’m downloading the trial now but wanted to see what people are already doing with the new features and what they might be…

July 2, 2007 at 8:08 pmAdobe’s CS3 forum goes over a bunch of the new features… BTW it’s moderated by Cow veterans Mylenium & arozenfeld.

July 2, 2007 at 9:10 pmPuppet Tool is very cool, the new multithreaded rendering is pretty great if you have enough RAM (2GB per processor core is recommended), Shape Layers are promising, etc.
It’s a more worthy upgrade than 7.0 was, which was mostly noted for its shiny new interface.

July 6, 2007 at 1:56 amI have some stuff for the puppet tool soon. But I haven’t recorded anything yet – just stuff I presented either at AENY or at Promax, but I found a few cool unexpected things that can be done.
For example, you can use the puppet to make a character deform along a motion path. Set a few puppet points from top to bottom of the actor, and then animate the top one to move all over the place. Then copy those keyframes and paste them one frame later for the puppet point below it. Do that for all of them, one frame later than the previous one. It will make your actor stretch and fly all over the place like a balloon shooting out its air.
You can also do some very subtle facial animation for a character as well. Make the eyebrows and mouth seperate from the face, and animate the angles of things. This is harder to describe…
