New training tool
I have a feature film shot in real time using eleven different cameras simultaneously (mostly one room like Rope, 12 Angry Men). I can provide the raw footage and shooting script. This is the idea for the next step:
I’m intent on making this part of a training tool for young editors. And basically I’m searching for feedback.
1 – Could this product have benifitted you when first learning your craft?
2 – Would this product be useful as a teacher/instructor/mentor?
3 – Would you purchase/have purchased this product?I’m attempting something new and different for the marketplace.

This is a great idea. I was fortunate enough to have footage to play with when I was learning to edit. It definitely has value as a learning aid and I think people will buy it if it gives them something they can’t easily shoot themselves. I don’t know how you shot it or what problems you may have had while shooting and if they are present in the footage, but a possible issue is that if the footage is too perfect it will not properly represent what an editor would have to deal with in a real production (like for instance there would be no match-action problems). I bring this up because, interestingly enough, I just wrote a book designed to serve as a surrogate mentor to young editors, assistants, and editing students. I just got some feedback on it from an assistant editor that said that the ficticious reality show that I used to illustrate my points was too perfect and didn’t reflect real world situations.

I agree with Chaz – I’d like to see less than perfect footage. Of course, I used footage from ‘Gunsmoke’ on a 3/4″ system (and you slipped your edit 10 frames because the pre-roll was so unreliable!)
Also, with that amount of footage, it might be overwhelming for new editors to go through in time to complete a project (thinking of a classroom situation here…)Jon
