New to HD w/ FCP — need hardware advice
Hi all,
I am setting up an editing suite at home and need some help making sure I will be fully HD capable on my soon-to-be-ordered Apple G5. Right now, I edit just about every format where I work — HD, HDV, DV, DVCPro25 & 50. In order to handle HD at home, do I need a Kona 2 card? Is that something that I will have to install myself? Also, for uncompressed editing, what size RAID is best?

Which flavor of uncompressed HD do you want to run? How much do you want to store? You’ll need a few terabytes, probably. I like Xserve RAID–but others will have some suggestions, I am sure.

If you want to be able to edit HD I suggest going thru an authorized Apple Pro Video reseller and save yourself the hassle of doing it yourself. I work for Applied Video Technolgies if your in south east PA and we have built many FCP based high def systems for clients. Others you might want to check out if not near us would be Promax. As for the Kona 2 board, our clients who have it love it and can’t wait for FCP 5.0 to come out so that they can work in real-time HD with it.
