  New to HD, questions about rendering blur probs

  Hello All,

  For starters I am running Sony Vegas 7.0e and am now trying to render some video I shot with my Canon HV20.

  I have worked with Vegas 7 for over a year, though I am not a beginner with the software, this is the first time I have been working with HD editing and output.

  So…I have a couple of questions.

  1. The video was shot in HD24P during my son’s Taekwondo tournament. I used Vegas to import the video. The properties for the file is HD 1080-24p (1920×1080, 23.976 fps).

  I edited stuff I didn’t want, added music, titles… the usual stuff. Nothing too fancy. A total duration of only 5 minutes 56 seconds.

  After finishing up I clicked on Tools, then Print Video to HDV Tape. After this step was complete, I connected the HV20 to my Denon Receiver via HDMI. This then output to my Samsung DLP via HDMI. I played the tape and I noticed some blurring.

  For instance, in one shot, I had my son at home introducing himself and talking about the tournament. When I viewed the shot, I noticed that there was some bright light coming from a window in the other room – top right of the shot. So, I used Vegas to crop the shot.

  In the rendered tape, my son moves his hand and there is a motion blur around his fingers – nowhere else in the shot. This blurring looks as if the video around his fingers is blocky and pixelated.

  I used this same effect in a later shot at the end of his forms. As he finishes and starts to bow, I created a couple of keyframes then cropped into a closer shot of him. In this case, there is no blurring in any of his movements.

  2. My second question has to deal with backing up the tape. I plan to keep the original tape and also the the final rendered tape. Can I save the files on my computer to a DVD? If so, I assume that I can someday in the future copy those files back to a computer, edit and re-output to my HDV camera or even HD/BluRay when those drives and media are more cost effective.

  With that in mind, do I really need to keep the original mini-dv tape? The tape was imported as HDV, right?

  3. Finally, any suggestions for brand/quality of tapes? I purchased my camera from B&H Photo and also bought some Panasonic VM60EJ Mini DV tapes for $2.59/tape. Is there really a difference between that tape versus the $19.95/tape Canon DVM-E63PR?
