New to FCP X – creating stereo pairs from mono
I am new of FCP X after coming over from FCP 7.
In FCP you could simply duplicate a mono audio track, and link the two mono tracks up as a stereo pair – very good for dialogue. Can anybody explain how to do this in FCP X?

Select the clip
Go to the inspector window
Audio Tab
Click on Stereo
Do this before you edit the clips.

David concisely outlines the best practice – I’ve seen too many editors try the seemingly intuitive “copy the audio track and to another separate audio track and line them up” idea.
That might work, but if one of the tracks gets pushed out of alignment even by a single frame, you’re opening yourself up to potential very destructive phase problems that can really mess up your sound.
