David concisely outlines the best practice – I’ve seen too many editors try the seemingly intuitive “copy the audio track and to another separate audio track and line them up” idea.
That might work, but if one of the tracks gets pushed out of alignment even by a single frame, you’re opening yourself up to potential very destructive phase problems that can really mess up your sound.
