  • New to FCP – starting a 55min film – need tips to work with HDV

    Hello all,

I’m making my first steps in migreting from Premiere Pro CS4 to FCP.

I have 1 week to get used to it – because I have a big project incoming.

I need to know what preps I need to do – to be fully prepared for this project.

Here is some info regarding the data & formats of the footage.

    Footage was shot on:
    Panasonic HVX200
Format: DVCPRO HD 720 pn (native) 24p
    Timebase: 23.98 fps.

    I’m building a Hackintosh
    New Rig (Leopard 10.5.7):
    CPU: Core i7 920
    RAM: 12gig
    GPU: GTX 285 2GB OC
HDD: 6 X 1 TB HDDs: 4 HDDs in RAID 5 and 2 HDDs for System.

So the rig is pretty strong.

Will I need RT hardware to work with this material?
    Black Magic card maybe?

please direct me because as mentioned – I’m new to Final cut studio
and this is my first High Def project.

    Thanks a lot!

Um, your format is DVCPro HD, not HDV as you mention in the subject of your thread.

Running on a hackintosh? Good luck with that. Can’t recommend any video cards or any other hardware because who knows if they would work on your configuration.

Well, you’re starting yourself off in a very bad position because you’re not even running the correct hardware so there’s absolutely no guarantees anything will work or work correctly.

DVCPro HD runs on a standard Mac with no additional hardware necessary. As for learning Final Cut Pro, there are tutorials on this forum and many training tools available.

OK, first of all, thanks for replaying.

Please disregard the fact that I run hackintosh.

My system is rock solid – and all Apple Hardware is working great on my rig – So please leave the compatibility issues for me…

So if you may, please guide me as if I had a Mac Pro.

    You said:

So basically what your saying is that I will not need any hardware to run it smoothly?

    Applying effects? rendering? Color correcting?

would you recommend any card to boost performance \ rendering\ optional display out maybe?

    Thanks again!

[Ariel Brener] “Please disregard the fact that I run hackintosh. “

Can’t because there’s zero guarantees anything will work correctly in terms of Studio and related software.

On a Mac, Yes. Any basic Mac can cut DVCPro HD with no issues.

I don’t know what to recommend with your configuration.

    Thank you very much!

I will report in the next few days after I’ll build my rig.

I understand that you can’t give guarantees for my rig – but I didn’t ask for them.

Thats why I wanted to ask you to consult as if you were consulting a Mac pro user.
And how a mac Pro user should relate to working with DVCpro HD.

All Apple supported external Hardware works out of the box with Hackintosh.
As the PCI-E it depends but please let me worry about that – I have other places and forums to check for HW compatibility.

But before that – I need to know which HW to check and examine.
Thats why I wanted your experienced help.

If I want to use external monitor for displaying the image from sequence. which card would you recommend?

I currently have to LCD displays:
    20″ DELL 2007 & 24″ DELL 2407WFP

Is there an option in FCP to send a full display image to a hole monitor?
    (Premiere has this option).

    Thanks again.
