New To FCP 4!
Posted by Smallfry on July 19, 2005 at 10:57 pmI’m new to FCP 4, fresh from Media 100. I bought a Matrox RT Mac capture card and BOB. Now I am unable to capture video from my Beta SP or DVC Pro decks. How can I route a firewire drive into these two without ports?? I was trying version 3 and it had multiple options for capture, but the version 4 has only a couple. Any tips??

July 19, 2005 at 11:33 pmIf you making the move from Media 100 the best advice I can give you is to run the Tutorial and read up on the Capturing section of the manual. That’s what I did when I made the switch from M100 four years ago. Capturing is quite a bit different than with M100.

July 20, 2005 at 12:13 amThanks for the tip and I will read the tutorial. However, my question is do I need another piece of hardware to capture from my Beta deck and DVC pro deck. The options are not extensive in version 4.

July 20, 2005 at 11:25 amIf you want to capture uncompressed from your Beta deck, then you will require additional hardware such as the AJA Io, Aurora Pipe series or the AJA Kona series. You’ll also need fast harddrives.
If you are going to capture using the DV codec, then you can run the Beta machine through the DVCPro deck and just capture via Firewire.

July 20, 2005 at 12:46 pmthe RT Mac card you have purchased does not work with any versions of FCP 4 or later. i would suggest asking for a refund from whoever you bought it from – sounds like a dodgy vender that would sell a product that is no longer supported or sold by the manufacturer (Matrox)!!!
