    Hi,

I’v never really used Compressor to export and now I have a video that is over 2 hours long and I want it to fit on a standard DVD, but each setting I use makes the file too large. Which settings should I use in Compressor for the file to fit? The footage was shot on SD PAl 48 khz.

    Thanks,
    Zevie

If I remember correctly 5.29 GB

Is that combined audio and video? Also, are you using the Dolby Digital Professional preset in the same folder in Compressor to compress to AC3 audio? If not, you should, it substantially decreases file size and require overhead, but not audio quality.

Thanks, but is there any way I can reduce the quality and fit on a standard 4.7 Gb DVD?

Yes you can reduce quality. Use one of the presets, duplicate it, and change the data rate. It’s all in the manual.

Yes, you can turn down the bitrate, and make sure to compress your audio as has been mentioned.

For 165 minutes of video your average bitrate HAS to be no higher than 3.4 Mbps when you are using ac3 audio at .192 Mbps for stereo.

That is low is you need to maintain quality. Use a 2 pass VBR average 3.4 and max 6. Your spread should always be at least 2Mbps but never more than 3Mbps (this is my opinion). Understand if you go higher on the max it has to also go much lower on the min to balance it out. Unless this is talking heads with locked down cameras motion will break up.

You need to find a bitrate calc. everyone needs one, without one you are just taking a shoot in the dark.
