I need some recommendations and advice as I proceed to buy a new FCP system, there are a lot of choices out there and I’m having a hard time determining what I absolutley NEED. I’m moving on to FCP from my PC based discreet Edit. So, I’m somewhat new to the Mac side of things. I’ll primarily be editing with DVCPro 50 Progressive using SDI. We’ll be doing HD firewire in the near future and possibly HD-SDI. I do about 40% compositing/colorization/compression and the rest is basic editing. Speed is obviously a priority, as well as RT. I could just get the highest and fastest of everything, but are there cheaper solutions and still maintain relatively fast, steady workflow for the formats I’m using?

I’m looking to get FCP 5, not sure about the 2.7 anymore after reading prior negative threads, and I’ll probably get the Kona 2. Not sure what kind of hard drives are best to get–I’d like fast throughput. I don’t need the mega hard drives for HD-SDI just yet. I just need something sufficient and reliable until then.

I’d appreciate any wisdom and counsel on the subject.

    Thanks,
    Krisi
