  • New Snapping behaviour – Don’t Likey

Did a few searches and only turned up a thread about 6.0.2 bugs. However, I don’t think the new snapping behaviour is a bug (I thought it was at first) but a “feature.”

Before, when you turned snapping on or off, it remained on or off. SIMPLE.

Also, cleverly, you could hit the n-key while dragging something to turn it on or off on the fly. And then it would remain on or off.

Now, if you hit n when you’re dragging, the snapping will only remain on or off temporarily, until you’re done dragging. Then it goes back to the opposite.

You have to now hit n in between dragging actions if you want the setting to stick. This is very distracting and annoying if you like to work fast. I don’t want to think about whether or not my snapping was on or off. Then, if I realize mid-drag that it’s not what I want, I have to hit it and hit it again when I’m done if I want it to stick. DUMB.

So, is this a bug or is it what we’re stuck with now?

Please please please let it be a bug!

I was a little taken aback by it at first, but I really think it’s a super useful feature. Would be nice to have an option to change this feature, though.

I didn’t know this, but I think I like it.

Before now, you only had one way of doing it (permanent).
Now you have two ways (permanent or temporary).

It reminds me of the buttons on both my PD-170 and V1-U cameras. I have a switch to turn auto-focus on and a button I can hold to momentarily auto-focus.

I like that choice and use the button much more than I use the switch. This is like Final Cut adding that “button” it never had before.

Given that I make so much use of that distinction while shooting I have to imagine it will be just as useful while editing.

    Apple has posted a workaround.

Doesn’t sound like a workaround. Holding the option key invokes selecting JUST the audio portion of the clip or JUST the video portion. Or the opposite if you prefer to operate with linked selection off.

It did take a bit getting used to, but I like this feature.

Ugh… This “feature” has been ruining every day for me now since the update. I am so frustrated. It affects me thus: I always OPTION CLICK to zoom out of the timeline and every time I do so snapping turns itself back on!

I absolutely hate it and I’m really pissed at Apple for fucking up my work flow. I have to now hit CMD-Minus to zoom out of the timeline which still feels unintuitive for me.

Some days I have to put it into perspective a little and think about all the starving people in the world when it gets too much.
