Just about to head out the door to ye olde Apple Store to buy a new “bottom of the line” Quad-core (with Apple Care) for $2750, then dug around on the net for used Mac Pros. For $1400 at GainSaver i could get a refurbished Mac Pro, 3GHz two dual-core with the x1900 graphics card…and it seems like a pretty decent deal. Comparing this to what i have now, my G5 with a GeForce FX 5200 graphics card, seems like i would see a pretty huge improvement performance. What is your experience with buying used over new?

    Thanks again!

refurbs are not bad, but personally I would spend the extra and get
the Nehalem version of the new mac pros, to get that extra edge.

I just upgraded from a G5 quad and dual, to 2, nehalem 8-core systems and
    these just scream.

Apple gives you the same 1 year warranty with the same Apple Care options on refurbs that they give you on new systems. If you’re buying a refurbed mac, make sure that it’s a factory refurb with the factory warranty.

BTW, Apple also sells refurbs themselves through the online store at https://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac?mco=MTE3NjY
