    Hi,

I am trying to set up a Premiere CS5.5 project and could do with some advice on how to set the project up properly.

All of the video footage I need to edit with is Quicktime H264 1024×576 progressive 25 fps – how can I set up a preset to create a project / sequences which accommodate this footage without the need to constantly render the timeline?

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks,

    T.

Import your footage, drag one clip onto the “new timeline” icon at the bottom of your media bin. This will create a timeline that will conform to your footage.

As to if your footage needs to render or not, it comes down to your processor specs when dealing with h.264.

Timeline rendering in Premiere is to improve playback, it’s not like Final Cut where it has to absolutely conform to one codec.

Thanks very much Angelo – so there is no need to set the project up specifically at the start to accommodate the footage?

Not really, even the “editing modes” are guidelines, you can choose custom when you create a new sequence and adjust to your heart’s content.

You will get a yellow line over your timeline but this simply means there is nothing pre-rendered and footage “may or may not playback in real time” rather than some sign that you did something wrong.
