    Hi Shane,
I’ll be able to try it in a couple of days. First I have to finis a project.
Great the fixed the Shake problem. It took for them only one year and half.
About Color, I don’t see nothing about the PAL issue. PAL is simply broken in Color.
Please post if you find any problem.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

How is PAL broken in Color?

There was in issue with the PAL color space in versions 1.0 and 1.0.1 but they fixed everything in 1.0.2 and I’ve graded a full years worth of shows in PAL with very few problems.

    Hi,

Big issue here with the Color update. Not only Pal sd clips are broken in Color (empty clips with a red cross in the Color timeline, but also with XD Cam HD 50i and 25P. DVC Pro HD 50i and 25P work fine. There is a workaround for Pal SD clips. If you put them in an HD Sequence in FCP and send them to Color 1.03, they read fine in the Color timeline. Doesn’t work with the XDCam HD clips though. Is this a Color 1.03 problem or a FCP 6.05 (xml) issue?

    Quite annoying…

    Hi Piers,
PAL still broken in Color 1.0.2.
Make a little test. Just put some PAL bars in FC and send the same bars to Color.
Here is a screen-shot of how the same bars look in the two applications waveforms:

As you can see the bars in FC are OK. The Luma levels are decreasing from the White to the Black.
But if you look at the Color scope, the GREEN bar gets underneath the RED one.
There is an incredible shift in Luma levels.
I campared the chroma some time ago and there is a noticiable difference in level and phase in the Vectorscope.
This happens always with YUV bars. If you try sending the bars in any RGB codec the problem do not happens. So the problem, I believe, is how Color convert PAL YUB to RGB.
I’m CC a PAL movie and I’m using Colorista. I don’t dare to use Color at the moment.
    Cheers,

    Hi Stephan,
    Thanks for the info.
For me the PAL issue is not the main problem. What really scares me is having problems with the EX-1 footage.
I think I will wait for a while before updating.
    Cheers,
    Rafael

I ran the update and Shake still shows as 4.1.0606, so I tried to download the combo update, but it looks like they took it down. FCP ran okay with the update for a half hour, but now it’s spinning the beach ball, so I’d wait on installing the update if you haven’t yet.

if you look abit closer, you’ll see its not the scopes thats the problem…its the way video comes into color. read the above and you see in rgb its fine…therefore its the yuv conversion.depending on your settings and what format your using. you can double check this by correcting the bars and then sending them to tape then looking at the result through a “real” scope. so dont blame the scopes….the whole point of color correcting is to “take crap and make it art”, so if its beautiful on the screen and beautiful when you send it back to fcp then you’ve done your job. scopes shouldnt be a crutch, just a tool.
those are my thoughts….btw the funny “save in color thing” just went away and everything is back to normal. i’ve also been very successful in bringing avid projects into fcp/color with the duck and back and i have to say that for my clients and their budgets this is still one of the best solutions by far.

    Hi Kim,
I agree with you. Is how Color makes the YUV>RGB conversion. It doesn’t happens with RGB bars.
The curious thing is that Color makes the wrong conversion on importing and on exporting, so if you export those funny YUV PAL bars and open them back in FC they shows right. (?)
