    New PC Build for After Effects and Premiere

    Hello all,
    I’m currently in the process of putting together a build for my first PC. I’ll be working primarily using After Effects, Premiere, Mocha, and some C4D. I’m running the CC 2014 products with all the most recent updates. I feel I’ve got a decent build for After Effects which at this point is my focus, but I’m now looking to see if there are any recommendations for improved performance in Premiere.

    What do you guys think about the Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card?
    I was considering stepping up to the 980 but for After Effects it didn’t seem necessary. I’m open to other cards I’m just trying to keep my costs close to where it is now..

    As for my use of Premiere – I don’t think I will be working with 4K footage directly in Premiere. I’m guessing most of what I will be doing will already be in an intermediate codec so most likely won’t be dealing with many different codecs. As for effects I typically use Colorista and other color correction plugins in Premiere but do most of my effect work directly in AE.

    Two recommendations (that GTX will probably last a few years for you):

    • Up the power supply to at least 800W
    • If you have space in the case, increase the HD’s to 4 and use the Windows Dynamic drive settings to stripe them. This will be a BIG boost with working with both PP and AE. You should see a jump from 110MB/sec to over 400MB/sec with those drives in a 4 unit stripe. Just make sure that you point all of your cache and project locations to the array drive.

    Hey Tim,
    Thanks for the info! Now I’ll just need to see if I can fit the extra drives into my budget… I could certainly get the higher power supply.

    My one other question is this –

    Will the upcoming versions of Premiere enhance it’s support for multiple GPUs?
    This is not something I need at this point but potentially may want to upgrade in the future and would like to keep this in mind while choosing a motherboard.
