  • New multicam clip failing to sync

I am trying to create a new multicam clip in fcpx, I select all the clips i’d like to use, right click, select new multicam clip, leave everything on auto, and click okay. The synchronising clips gets to about %60 and then stays there and doesn’t move at all.

All the clips are named properly, have angle names and camera names, I’ve tried setting the multicam clip settings manually, adding timecode to the clips. Nothing has worked thus far. Has anyone else experienced this? Or have any idea if I’ve done something wrong?

    TIA

Is the audio really clean on all the tracks, of is the app struggling to match waveforms? In cases where the audio is bad, I’ve had luck pre-treating a duplicate clip to enhance the audio using sharp EQ filter settings to drop the bass out and push the human vocal frequencies.

That might make it unpalatable for your final mix, but we don’t care, so long as the plug-in can hear it, because we’ll do an audio replacement later, or we may not even need that audio for the final mix, since, if it was important, we’d have grabbed good audio on that source form the beginning, right?

Other possible explanations for the problem are that the clips are for some reason hogging a lot of ram by the nature of their codecs or something. Can you do a short test with proxy footage?

In addition to what Mark said, you could also try to determine if one of the source clips is causing the problem and isolate it by creating a multicam without all the clips. For example if there are 5 sources, try creating a multicam with 1-4. If you get the bulk of the multicam sync’d, you can manually add and sync the problem source.
