December 12, 2006 at 11:34 pmI knew it didn’t work with FCP. Not a big deal right now, because this is a personal camera, and all I do is film and throw the tapes into a drawer and come back later to edit a DVD together.
I know ths is the future. AVCHD is not just a sony idea.. I wanted to jump into it anyways, given the teribale state of the HD camcorder market at the moment. HDV is not a real HD.

December 13, 2006 at 12:44 amLooks like the only solution is an HDMI capture card or an HDMI->SDI converter.

December 15, 2006 at 8:11 pmI think you had it right to begin with. HDMI direct out through Decklink Intensity. I think you can even use an Intermediate codec to edit and export. No time code out the hdmi but the cool thing is you can preview all your clips right on your tv and push play on the clip and hit capture now. I think that will work fine. Only problem is, you probably bought the camera because it writes to hard disk and hoped to avoid the digitizing process. I know that’s what I would hope to avoid.
A codec for the mac has to be around the corner. Good luck.

January 9, 2007 at 3:22 amI run it into a PC and then using sony’s amateurish program
convert the file to map2 – this is is MUX file so I then burn it
to a DVD and then place it in a MAC – I then use MPEG streamclip
to convert it to a dv file – I then drag it into FC Express and edit it.Yeah, you lose quality with each conversion, but I like the quality,
it tends to be good with daylight or with halogens. However, it is
sad to watch it deteriorate with each compression.AVCHD will probably be the future so while I’m waiting for the
software I’m becoming familiar with the Sony Sr1 and …My suggestion for others is to wait and see.
I am a magician and I wanted new quality video for
new promo – for the most part it is working, but look
forward to new software. Sony … honestly, Sony needs
to be more supportive but the POTENTIAL is great!Martin

January 26, 2008 at 12:27 pmyeah look,
i have just been thru this procedure ( which is all icould call it) from sony and i just dont understand the need to guard this footage n such a way… as a user i want to access and use this outside of the world of sony (heaven forbid) to utilise in a project…
what planet do you sony people live on — start learning to talk to the rest of the world or fuck off!! you make great cameras, you solve some problems for us camera guys and then create a whole new bunch along the way … grow up..
Is there something I am missing — personally I think proprietry software , codecs etc.. is just showing a lack of confidence

January 28, 2008 at 10:08 pmsure, and sorry to get hot headed – trying to get this working as a second cam on a project and after trying all of my available options (including the rather odd and frustrating sony software – which just seems to want to convert it into some other kind of incompatible format) I updated Final cut pro to 6.0.2…
and what do you know — it comes up in log and transfer just like P2..
brilliant!!
so I don’t know if there are any other solutions out there — but at least there is a way to make use of this footage.
enjoy
