    Hi,

I am currently using a MacBook Pro (2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo – 3GB RAM). This computer is over 2 years old now and hardly keeping up with my editing schedule.

I typically use FCP, Motion, LiveType. I’ve noticed that it’s near impossible to use FCP and Motion at the same time. Everything comes to a halt and usually both programs crash.

As far as footage goes, I primarily shoot in 720PN onto P2 cards. All of my stuff goes to the web.

My manager has informed me that it’s time for a new machine and I was wondering what people would recommend for me. Should I stick with the MacBook Pro or should I go to a iMac or MacPro?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hi Matt.

My MacBook Pro is also two years old, and I’m experiencing the same crash problem whenever FCP and Motion are both open. I like the portability of my MBP, but if I didn’t need that benefit, I’d be inclined to go with a Mac Pro. The new 27″ iMac is pretty interesting, but I have an external eSATA RAID that I couldn’t use with it. If I knew that an external FW800 RAID would work well (I only edit HDV footage captured using ProRes), then I’d probably go with the iMac, since an iMac plus a new FW800 RAID would probably be cheaper than a Mac Pro.

In short, if I had to make a decision today, I don’t know what I’d do. You’re on your own. 🙂

    Yes,

All that makes sense. In a perfect world, I’d get a MacPro and use a MacBook Pro on the road… I also am aiming to do Live HD streaming, so I’ll probably need the MacPro soon anyway…Yikes.
