New Mac Pro tower and older Cinema Display
I just hooked up my new Mac Pro to my older model Apple Cinema display. Little by little I’ve noticed lots of pixel noise (flickering) all over. This display is about 5 years old so my thought it is starting to go bad, but it was find with my older Mac Pro. One thing that is different is the new Mac Pro doesn’t have any firewire 400 slots so the display is only hooked up with the usb and dsi port leaving the firewire hanging. Could that be the problem? I’m horrible with hardware issues so any help would be greatly appreciated!

NO, the FW & USB are connections on the display are simply FW and USB hubs. The video signal to the display is completely separate.

If you plug it back into the old computer is it still fine?

Thanks Zack. My other computer is no longer working, but I will bring a CPU home from work and test it out.
On a stranger note, last night the pixel flickers were everywhere and now they are only in the top left part of the screen. This is just odd. I’ll test a new CPU tonight and post my results.

Also war size cinema display is it?
The 30″ cenema uases dual link dvi and would require a spwcial adapter on some machines.

It’s a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display.

Make sure you are using the special dual link to mini display adapter when conecting it to any new Mac.

Some of the 23″ HD Cinema displays flicker a touch when multiple windows are overlapping on the screen. Not sure if this was an issue with any of the 30 inchers.
I have 2 23″ displays purchased 6 months apart from each other. One is afflicted with this issue, the other not.

Thanks guys for you help! I just added the dual link adaptor and the problem seems to be fixed. I just read over the link Colin posted and that was exactly my problem. The problem was much worst on large white windows against black backgrounds.
I think this new cable solved the problem. Thanks again
