  • new Mac Pro — and NOISE!

My new mac arrived yesterday, and one thing I’m noticing is that it’s loud, very loud. It’s not that hot here in the LA area just now, don’t have air conditioning running, but the mac seems to think it’s very hot because while doing next to nothing but surfing the web, the fan is really working overtime. I left and came back a couple hours later, nothing going on except the mac running a screen saver, and it was still running really loud. I did a restart, kept blowing. So I powered it down, unplugged, and started it up, and it was quiet…for about 10 minutes. Then the fan started up again and it’s blowing in overdrive.

Is this normal? I thought my old pc was a little noisy, but it’s quiet as the grave compared to this new mac.

    Any ideas?

Nope, not normal. Ours only ran for 5 days before it died, but it was very very quiet. We just found out today the B RAM Riser is dead and of course, Apple doesn’t have any in stock so our machine is out indefinitely at this point.

You’re referring to the MacBook Pro (MBP)? If so, that’s the laptop, we’re talking about the Mac Pro, the desktop.

Yes, all Apple laptops run very hot.

Definitely something wrong! Our MacPro is the quietest machine we had in a long time, and we have even added harddisks to all the slots.
