New Mac Pro 2013 and Premiere Pro lockups

I was having these issues also on a New Mac Pro. The problem ended up being drive bandwidth. Once I put all of my footage on a thunderbolt drive and ran it off of a single thunderbolt bus it cut my crashing issues by 90%.

Hmmm, I have a Thunderbolt 2 Raid, but I have a single external audio drive daisy chained to it, I wonder if that’s causing my problem?

I don’t know if that audio drive is the problem. I was working with Red Raw dragon footage at 4K and when I changed my drive and input the crashes mostly stopped. I had tried may different things to get my system running well trashing plugins, uninstalling all Black magic video drivers, Uninstalling and re-installing Premiere. And the drive change worked for me. You can try opening your Sequence in a new Project and I would also clear the cache.

The only other time I have had ton of trouble with a project if is I get it from someone else and it has plugins not in my system even if they are not in a sequence I am working on.

Thanks for the link. I just found how the Thunderbolt Buses are laid out. I think I might have two buses with two devices each. Once back in the office I’ll reconfig and see if that helps. Might switch my audio drive to a USB 3 also.

It’s important to note: attach displays to different Thunderbolt busses when possible. Do not attach more than two displays to any Bus. This means that if you use the HDMI port, be sure to then only use one of the bottom two Thunderbolt ports (Bus 0).

Here’s what has gone down so far, I’ve replaced my Audio Thunderbolt drive that was daisy chained to my Thunderbolt RAID with a USB 3 Drive, still had crashes. I then partitioned part of my Video RAID for my audio, knock on wood, so far no crashes. I know the old days of having your audio and video on separate drives has been over for years, but I still liked having them separated. Well, not if it’s going to cause this many problems.

Yesterday after partitioning a TB of my Video RAID for Audio files and getting rid of the daisy chained external Thunderbolt 2 audio drive….and trying an external USB 3 audio drive, I’m editing without lockups. Funny thing is, I only had music on the external drive, but once I stored the music on my fresh RAID partition for audio, the software seems happy. Now to try editing on CC 2014 again. Wish me luck.

My smooth editing was shot lived, problems with lockups in Premiere Pro CC are still happening…..that is until I decided to unhook the OWC Helios 2 that housed my AJA LHi. Once I took that off Premiere Pro CC is working faster than ever and better than ever, no lockups at all two days running (knock on wood). However Premiere Pro CC 2014 still has problems with the New Mac Pro, PPCC2014 is still disappearing then I get the “serious error” message. Do you think I can get a reduced monthly payment plan?

At least I’m up and running on Premiere Pro CC.
