has anyone tried the new Mac Minis in their Ethernet SANs? i’ve heard that the new i5 and i7 iMacs and MacBook Pros don’t handle Jumbo Frames correctly due to new ethernet chipsets. i’m wondering if the new Mac Minis possibly have a similar issue. although, they are C2D and not i5 or i7 (or i3). i’m looking at adding new computers for Assistant Editors and leaning towards Minis since we have a few monitors lying around.

    thanks

i just checked Apple.com for the tech specs on the Mac Mini, iMac and MacBook Pro and noticed this:

for both the iMac and MacBook Pro it says this in the “Communications” column:

    10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)

but for the Mac Mini, it says this:

10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet (RJ-45) interface with support for jumbo frames

    interesting…

Core 2 Duo machines support jumbo frames. i5 and i7 do not.

Eric, instead of asking, why not just go to a Mac Mini, and set the MTU to 9000 (or 8100) and see if it “sticks”. That’s the best answer to the question.

thanks bob, but i’m asking because i don’t have a new one to test. i’m about 5 or 6 hours away from the nearest Apple Store.
