    Hello everybody.

I have just made the switch from pc to mac, and i’m so happy…. I love mac !!!
Anyway, i just bought FCE HD and i have a question…
I’m used to Adobe Premiere where i can change the size of my frames – eg : i can set 720×576 (4:3) or 1050×576 (16:9) or any custome size that i want, but here in FCE HD it seems that i can on select DV or Anamorphic DV…. When i import a .mov file created as 4:3, it looks weird in the preview window and the video doesnt take the whole space in the preview window. I still have a black frame around it…

Could you guys help me please ? How can i change the frame size ?

    Thank you…

    Bertrand.

FCE is DV and DV only. You can’t change format / codec / framesize.

When you say a black box, are you seeing a letterbox (black at top and bottom) a pillarbox (black on left and right) or black all around?

Not sure about FCE, but FCP has an anamorphic check box in the clip info which would solve the first two, the third is a little more puzzling.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have back box on right and left, and the picture is squeezed.
this is really annoying… Has FCP more options regarding frame sizes ? can you customise them ??
Is there a way for me to un-squeeze my video ???

The sizes you give for what Premiere does are the PAL sizes for DV and DV Anamorphic (though the horizontal res of the Anamorphic is incorrect as it should be the same as 4:3 DV, but that’s another discussion). It sounds as if you’ve placed 4:3 material into a 16:9 sequence, but the 4:3 shouldn’t be squeezed.

Where did this material come from? How did it get into your computer? What does Item Properties say about the specs of the material, frame size, frame rate, anamorphic yes or no? What are the item properties of the sequence you’ve put the material in? Do they match?

    All the best,

    Tom
