New KONA LH driver 8.1.1
Posted by David Achilles on January 28, 2011 at 7:28 pmAnyone else having difficulty with the new 8.1.1 Kona driver? Since installing it Final Cut has been very unstable. Crash reports point to the aja Kona output.
Currently running FCP 7 on Snow Leopard – Dual core 2.66 ghz Intel Xeon. 4gb Ram.
I’m installing the NDD version to see if that helps.

January 28, 2011 at 10:45 pmI did.
In addition to crashing problems with FCP, when playing the video on the timeline, it slides out of sync with the audio. Nothing changes on the timeline, in other words, FCP stays in sync on the computer monitor, but it’s like the Kona card has trouble keeping up with playing the timeline.
I am using 8.1.1 NDD now and still have the crash/sync problems.

January 28, 2011 at 10:49 pmDo I need to do that on my own? When I launched FCP after first installing the new driver, it prompted me for new easy setup settings.

And you chose the one that matches your timeline, correct?
it control-q and make sure it’s setup correctly. Could be an easy fix.
Also, NDD is a good idea.

January 28, 2011 at 10:56 pmAll is setup correctly. I am still getting the “slippage” on playback.
Interstingly though, I am editing 10 bit uncompressed. When I change the KONA playback settings to 8 bit uncomp, all is in sync and playback is solid. It still crashes though every so often.

January 28, 2011 at 11:48 pmChanging to view at 8 bit made it play in sync. And so far no big crashes since going to NDD 8.1.1

February 1, 2011 at 3:38 pmYes I have the same thing going on. I’ve been around and around the track with drivers, firmware, raid card, etc. and can’t get it resolved except by setting things to 8 bit. Much phone time with support… they are puzzled. Not sure what is up. It started when I installed the new drivers but oddly does not revert when I reinstall the old ones.. Stumped.
