New Kona / Adobe Drivers for PrP – MAC

Now, is this a PPro ONLY driver? The special one that gets it to work with Adobe? Or is this the OVERALL driver that affects FCP too?

Hi Shane. 2 new drivers. 9.1 for Kona and friends. And 9.1 for Adobe plugin for CS 5.5 (PrP and AE external display). Ive been testing primarily the PrP.

And yes, I have been viewing the output from the Source and the Program monitor thru the Kona to my external reference monitor. Playback on the computer screen (left and right GUI monitors) bumps a little at first when played, but is rock solid on the external monitor.

OK, I just installed the same drivers. 9.1 for Kona 3, and 9.1 Adobe drivers. Still not a smooth PROGRAM monitor when I use the AJA sequence settings. Smooth output to the monitor, but Program monitor still stutters. And the Viewer doesn’t play out. That is when using the ADOBE PLAYER like I was before.

When I use AJA as the Player, the Program monitor still isn’t smooth, and the VIEWER won’t play at all. It plays out to the monitor, but doesn’t play AT ALL on the computer.

And I don’t see the AGGRESSIVE MODE option. Something’s up.

Hi Shane. Im using a Kona 3 for my system. When using an AJA sequence the player MUST be set to AJA with those new drivers. To get to Aggressive Cache…
1. Right click on the Sequence to open Sequence Settings
2. Then click on Playback Settings at the upper right
3. This opens the AJA panel
4, At the bottom right select Aggressive Cache.
5. At the lower left sett quality at first to medium.
6 Select OK

Watch playback on your monitor. Good luck!Depending on the format of your clips, the Program might bump a tiny amount. My 5D stuff did a little on first playback, but the external is rock solid. The Program monitor was solid for Prores. P2, XDCAM and Motion JPEG.

THERE it is. Now I see.

OK, but I still, using the AJA settings, the Viewer ONLY plays back on the external monitor, not on the computer monitor IN the Viewer, and the external. And I cannot hear audio. I have AUDIO OUT mapped to BUILT IN OUTPUT…but I get nada. Is it routed through the Kona? Because I don’t have a K-Box for that…so I don’t have analog outs.

Well thats a start.
When I play an AJA sequence I listen to the analog output patched into my audio system. I can select either the Mac Pro output (for Adobe sequence) or the AJA output for AJA sequences.
I dont know what systemic differences we have, but I have a motion JPEG stock footage clip in the source monitor AND the external playing right now, smoothly. Then when the timeline is playing on the Program monitor its also playing smoothly on the external.

ProRes…same thing. But not the Viewer…I need the Viewer to play in both too. It does in every other app. Babysteps I guess.

As far as audio monitoring, yeah, gotta use an Adobe sequence until I can get a K-Box

THERE we go…ADOBE AUDIO. Perfect!

Smooth playback of ProRes in the Program/External monitor. Not so much other non-optimized footage, like these AVI files. But that’s expecting a bit much, I think.

Still need to get the Viewer thing working though…
