  • New Install of PPro7 Misinterpreting AE Output

PPro 7 is doing a weird thing after a recent reinstall: It wants to interpret 720×480 NTSC DV (0.9 Pixel Aspect Ratio) as 1.0 PAR. It has never done this before.

I have verified many times over that my output from After Effects is, in fact, 0.9 PAR and that the AVI output is set at NO COMPRESSION. I have verified that AE output before my reinstall was created with the exact same AE render settings as afterward. I have viewed before-and-after AE-genned footage in an AVI viewer and they are the the same size and quality.

Prior to my reinstall, PP7 imported and properly interpreted such files at 0.9 PAR. Now, it interprets them as 1.0 PAR when they’re not. I know I can select “Interpret Footage” from the File menu and force PP7 to convert the imported footage to 0.9 PAR, but 1) I’ve never had to do it, 2) I shouldn’t have to do it, and 3) is there a global setting or preference I need to “switch on” for it to happen automatically.

Everyone’s been tremendously helpful…hope you don’t mind another “dip” into the well.
