  • New Hard Drive problem, does not have read/write access

I just purchased a dual 2.3 G5. I had a Lacie firewire drive crash again, so I went out and purchased a Hitachi 400 GB internal drive and installed it in the second bay. I copied all of the files from my previous drive. Now however when I load Final Cut I get the error message “The thumbnail cache File Folder dose not have read/write access, please select a new folder in the system settings dialog or correct the problem on the disk”. When I try to copy files to the disk sometimes it ask me to authenticate and others it does not. I can not save to this drive. Anyone know what could be going on here?

Sounds like it’s permissions need to be looked at. Select it on the desktop, but not open it… then type cmd+i to Get Info on it. Change the permissions to read and write, and you should be good to go. Make sure it’s formatted to be mac OS Extended. I don’t think it matters if it’s journalled or not.

Somehow when I copied the folders off of the firewire drive, all of the folders were set to read only. I have to go to “get info” and change them one by one to read and write and now everything is working fine
