July 23, 2009 at 2:01 pmJust read through the FCS 3 product overview. Lots of “gee this is neat”, but no mention of multi-processor awareness. I think my octo-mac is starting to feel left out. I am also curious what they mean when they background rendering in compressor. I hope it isn’t the same thing as “background processing” with smooth cam. That would be awful.

July 23, 2009 at 2:09 pm[walter biscardi] “You mean P2 native? Yeah that’s in there too. “
It is? Everything I see looks like it still rewraps to QT.

DVCPro HD has been native since v4.5.

July 23, 2009 at 2:23 pmFor those upgrading to the New Final Cut Studio, you need to be running OS 10.5.6 or later and have an Intel processor.
I really like the improvements.
We are going to have to start a new forum for the new studio.

July 23, 2009 at 2:28 pmYep I’d love to know if the software has taken advantage of the 8 core MacPros but can’t see anything about that yet.

July 23, 2009 at 2:37 pmDid anyone else notice that the DVDSP4 icon was left out of the original posting of “The New Final Cut Studio” on apple.com? But, it’s been added now. Kind of a freudian slip if you ask me.

July 23, 2009 at 2:39 pmI would imagine this will be a point upgrade after Snow Leopard is released, of a 7.5 release around Christmas (for a fee, of course).
Did anyone notice the drop in the full version price?
The previous FCS2 had a full price of $1299. That’s a $300 price cut. NICE!
I love that Apple fixed alot of what we were gripping about BUT no all of the features were fixed. Personally, I like the fact that speed changes no longer need to ripple the timeline. The new Export changes… AWESOME! A timecode window… About time! Background Export – WAY COOL!!! Improved render management – Let’s see when we get our hands on it – BUT it sounds great. Display SD safe title area inside HD – YEAH!
TWO THUMBS UP!!!

July 23, 2009 at 2:40 pmI’m not sure what to think about the new studio. It’s like 2 1/2 years since the last release, I’m not very impressed unless a lot of “under the hood” changes have been made.
The new 4:4:4:4 ProRes codec sounds nice but where is the uncompressed alternative of that? Why hasn’t Final Cut Pro gotten “with the program” in terms of speed-effects? Compressor and Motion have optical compensated effects here… If the new “background processing” is anything like what smooth cam is now, well that’s not a background processess. That’s a “stop and resume” process. Nothing really new on the grading and mastering scene unless you go via Color (I hope version 1.5 has less bugs and clumbersum UI than 1.0 had, that would at least be something). They state they have a better media manager, that’s been a source of less than pleasant surprises in the past.
Still, I’m unsure if it’s worth it or not. The Intel Only move is a potential problem for us also since we’ve got one intel and one ppc bay still working. Might get the upgrade and try it at home to see if it’s worth it all. Feels less than innovative from my pov.
