    Peter –

iSCSI might be the way to go for the future – but if I have to make a financial commitment in the near future – next 6 months – do you think it will be viable in that time frame?

    Kev –

I went to their website and saw a lot of different options. Can you tell me which option (and what price, if it differed from the listed ones) you’re talking about.

    Herb,

I wish I knew! It just seems to me that iSCSI would be a way of building a cheap shared storage system with GigE swirches etc.
OK, there will be bandwidth limits, but 95% of FCP owners are not doing uncompressed SD or HD

Lets hope we see some more info at NAB

[WhiteNoise] “My solution that I speak of is sata, multi- lane. Quiet, fast, reliable…so far…and relatively inexpensive.
A good bit cheaper than caldigit solutions and everything out there.”

Exactly, “So Far.” I don’t really care about cheap solutions if they can’t run continuously for at least 6 months, 12 months is better. Again, let us know in 6 months time if you have had zero hiccups with the units.

Herb, At home now and alittle tired, contact Neil thro the website and mention myself ( Kev at WhiteNoise)and ask him for the exact details. I paid an amazing 2,300 uk pounds everything in. Promise you nothing out there pound for pound. Walter alittle too wary I feel. Fibre channel on the way out…thank god. It’ll be ethernet next but this solution will last for years.Very quiet, fast , compact, 2 multi lane cables. and lots of lights….good to go for uncompressed HD at 10bit….oh and Raid 5. How good does it get?
    Regards
    Kev

Fibre Channel on the way out? You’re kidding right? Not really sure how much you know about high speed storage, but Fibre is not going anywhere for a while. Ethernet is going to support multiple suites running high def? Don’t think so.

    Walter,

    Chill out, dude.

The guys is just trying to pass along some useful personal experience. Of course everyone will have to evaluate his advice based on their own needs and situations. Your own “Walter 6 months” test is of course valid but to say “don’t mention anything in this forum unless you’ve tried to kill it for six months” seems a bit like the opposite philosophy of what these forums should be about.

He’s not spreading factual errors or rumors or slander, just his personal advice on new gear.

    Don’t be a playa hater. : )
