New computer build – extremely slow editing
I humbly request some help.
One of the main purposes of my last build was to do some serious video editing. I use Sony Vegas Pro 12 mostly, but also a bit of After Effects.
Here’s what I have:
GIGABYTE GA-H77-DS3H LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3
SAMSUNG 840 128GB SATA III MLC Internal SSD (OS and programs)
WD 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal HD (media)In the interest of staying in budget, I reused the video card from my last build:
EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-Bit GDDR3
For about a month, the speed was what I expected. I could actually watch the previews of my editing before rendering. Rendering times were quicker as well.
The last few videos I’ve been working on have been a nightmare to work on. Videos previews freezing. Vegas unresponsive. Insanely long render times on AE. It’s actually worse than my 5 year old computer used to be.
Could it be related to using the older card? If so, why the slowdown now and not before? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
