April 14, 2008 at 12:50 amIs a high price tag what defines clout? Grant it, Avid has long been associate with high price tags but as has been mentioned in this forum a thousand times that if they’re going to compete FCP price point seems like a logical step.
I’m not as experienced as a most in this forum, but it seems like too many people are taking the “too little too late” stance in regard to Avid’s rethinking. To everyone who thinks they don’t have to take it, I offer that you’re absolutely right, you don’t. You’re free to buy FCP or any other NLE. I am excited for Avid’s changes, and looking forward to see how this affects post as a whole as I still prefer Avid over FCP.

“I have always felt a company like Avid should have an editor on staff.”
There are MANY talented editors on staff at Avid, but it was just announced that one of the best editors around has been hired. Frank Capria, from the Boston area, will be Product Manager for Media Composer. Congrats to both Frank and Avid on this announcement.

April 14, 2008 at 6:32 pmA little clarification from Avid:
We are very excited about Frank coming on board at Avid into the product management editor team!
Just to clarify – Frank is taking on the position of Product Designer working closely with myself who is the Media Composer Product Manager, Greg Staten (Product Designer for editors), Steve McNeill (Product Designer for editors) Olivier Karfis (Product Manager for editors) and Tim Claman (Director of Product Management for editors)

April 14, 2008 at 7:09 pmI didn’t notice any mention of Adrenaline. Does this mean our box that we added dnxhd board within the last year is going to be phased out and not supported? I’ve been waiting for them to qualify MC with Leopard too so i can make the PC to Mac switch. They said new Leopard support, but not in same sentence as Adrenaline. Anyone have any idea if my system is going to work? I’ve got this brand new quad-core just sitting here waiting to be driven.

April 25, 2008 at 1:41 amYou know what would be compelling at those still high prices? A box that would work for FCP, After Effects anything quicktime video out etc. as well, even if only for output/display; even if in a dual boot configuration.
Sorry, I am not that impressed. Too much money for something that only works with one damned application.
